Brec Bassinger confirms that Stargirl season 3 will have a massive murder mystery plotline when the Arrowverse show returns later this fall.
Brec Bassinger, who portrays Courtney Whitmore, confirms that Stargirl season 3 will have a massive murder mystery plotline when the show premieres this fall. One of The CW’s recent additions to the DC TV slate is Stargirl, which began as a DC Universe original while also airing on the Warnermedia and Paramount-owned network in 2020. For Stargirl season 2, the DC drama became a CW exclusive and has been one of the network’s top performers ever since. While the show has been off the air for over a year, Stargirl season 3 will premiere later this year as part of the 2022-2023 TV season.
Stargirl season 2 focused on the Justice Society of America taking on the villainous Eclipso, making it their darkest year yet. The end of the sophomore season saw the JSA take him down, but as one villain fell, another rose. While the Big Bad for Stargirl season 3 hasn’t been made entirely clear, Director Bones will serve as at least one of their threats, as the DC foe is on his way to Blue Valley. The theme of Stargirl season 3 will also focus on ‘frenemies,’ with the Crocks family and Cindy Burman/Shiv playing a crucial part in the story. Another hero will also be making his way into the Stargirl universe, as Tim Gabriel will play Todd Rice/Obsidian, Green Lantern’s son.
While Stargirl season 3 has yet to premiere, it appears there is a death coming in the new season. In a recent interview with TVLine, Bassinger revealed that another theme for Stargirl season 3 is a “murder mystery.” Without revealing which character may be the subject of this murder, the 23-year-old star teased that the hunt for the murderer will force heroes and villains to come together to find out who did it, sharing the following:
“Season 3 [is about] murder mystery and how evil and good are going to live in a town together and figure out who the murderer is.”
Currently, Stargirl is one of the few remaining DC TV shows left on The CW slate after the network axed Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and Naomi this year. This fall, Stargirl season 3 will be the only DC drama to air, with The Flash season 9, Superman & Lois season 3, and Gotham Knights season 1 saved for midseason 2023. Following the triple cancellations of Arrowverse shows, Stargirl fans got the show to trend on social media as they showed their support in wanting to see a Stargirl season 4 happen. As of right now, The CW hasn’t made any comments on Stargirl’s future after season 3.
When it comes to the murder mystery, Stargirl season 3 could be going in one of two directions in terms of who is killed. Up until now, Stargirl hasn’t had a major character death in the main cast other than some of the Injustice Society villains in season 1. Despite being believed to have died years ago, Sylvester Pemberton/Starman was revealed to be alive, with Joel McHale now reprising the role as a series regular in Stargirl season 3. If one of the main characters was killed off to set up the larger arc for season 3, this would certainly be a bold move from showrunners, but could also create fertile ground for a season 4. Time will tell exactly who meets their end, as Stargirl season 3 is only a few months away from premiering on The CW.
