Some new fan art on Instagram re-imagines what Squid Game would look like as an animated Disney movie. Since its premiere on September 17th, Netflix’s South Korean survival drama has become the pop culture phenomenon of the season, inspiring memes, Tik-Toks, and Halloween costumes. Writer/director Hwang Dong-hyuk came up with the idea for Squid Game back in 2008, but it wasn’t until 2019 that Netflix took interest after the concept had been rejected basically everywhere else. Now, the series is set to profit the streaming service upwards of $900 million.

Squid Game stars Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Lee Byung-hun, Gong Yoo, and HoYeon Jung in a story about people who play deadly children’s games for the chance to earn an accumulated 45.6 billion won. The games begin with 456 players and end with one left standing. By using the seemingly innocent nature of children’s games as a catalyst for universal, brutal truths like violence and greed, Squid Game is a poignant, resonant, and immensely popular commentary on the relationship between socioeconomic inequality and morality.

Instagram user samuel_cheve recently created some fan art depicting what a particular Squid Game character would like in an animated Disney movie. The piece sees HoYeon Jung’s Kang Sae-byeok in her “067” tracksuit next to a similar rendition of Mulan from Ralph Breaks the Internet. Check it out below:

In Squid Game, audiences are introduced to Kang Sae-byeok as a skilled pickpocket who knows her way around a knife. As a North Korea defector, it is revealed that she needs Squid Game’s prize money to aid her family. Most importantly, her little brother, who lives in an orphanage in Seoul. Kang Sae-byeok has not only become a fan-favorite character but is arguably the most moral and steadfast player in Squid Game. That being said, Squid Game certainly isn’t a family-friendly affair, but it makes sense that her character is the one to receive the unofficial Disney treatment.

Netflix currently has 209 million subscribers, and Squid Game has reportedly reached 132 million households. After a month on the service, the series is still its #2 title in the U.S. behind You. While Squid Game season 2 has not been confirmed by Netflix, season 1 ends with an intriguing cliffhanger, and Hwang Dong-hyuk has mentioned ideas for a follow-up; it will almost certainly happen with a much bigger budget. Unfortunately, HoYeon Jung’s character, like so many others, didn’t make it to season 1’s credits. However, now that the actress’ profile has grown exponentially, there’s always the possibility audiences could actually see her in a Disney film.
